Island Line

Island Line, Esplanade, Ryde, UK

Island Line is a railway service that connects the eastern part of the Isle of Wight with the mainland. It operates from Ryde Pier Head, where passengers can board the Wightlink Fastcat Service to Portsmouth Harbour. The line then stops at Ryde Esplanade, which serves the Hovercraft Terminal for crossings to Southsea. The next station is Ryde St John's, located near the town centre and bus station. The line then continues to Smallbrook Junction, where it intersects with the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, a heritage attraction that runs vintage trains on selected days. Passengers can transfer between the two services at this station when the steam railway is open. The line then passes through Brading, a historic town with a Roman villa and a medieval church. The next three stations are Sandown, Lake and Shanklin, which are popular seaside resorts with sandy beaches and attractions such as Sandown Pier and Shanklin Chine. Island Line provides a convenient and scenic way to explore the eastern side of the island.
