Alum Bay is well-known for its coloured sands, which you can buy in ornamental glass shapes. There is also the chairlift, which gives great views of the bay and The Needles. It is also the quickest way down to the beach, avoiding the stairs down. The park is also the home to the Alum Bay Glass Studio. Visitors can watch the glass being blown in vases and other shapes. They can then be purchased as well in the factory shop. For sweet fans, there is the Sweet Factory. Demonstrations of the sweets being made, are carried out all day, and can be purchased in the store next door.     Sandown Sandown is the most popular town on the island for tourists. The town shares the same bay and beaches with Shanklin. The town is home to some wonderful shops located on the high street with a wide choice of gift shops and cafes. Located at the far end of the town is the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary, which located in the old fort. Keep a eye out for a tiger on the top! Next door to the Sanctuary is Dinosaur Isle and Sandham Gardens. The area near these attractions is called Yaverland, which you will find plenty of fossils in the eroding cliffs.     Cowes is the world famous yachting centre. Once a year The Solent around Cowes is filled with sails during Cowes Week. Cowes is also the starting point and finishing point for the end of the Round the Island Race. Attractions Cowes is home to some amazing attractions such as: Osborne House, Classic Boat Musuem & The Wight Military & Heritage Museum. There is also brilliant beaches which offer amazing views of The Solent! Transport Cowes has amazing transport links with the mainland and rest of the Island. Southern Vectis provides Routes 1 to Newport, 4 to Ryde and Route 5 to Newport. There is also the Red Funnel vehicle & passenger ferry from East Cowes to Southampton, Cowes provides the passenger Red Jet services to Southampton. The Queen spent most of her time on the island after the death of her husband, Albert, and in 1901 died in the house. In the grounds is the swiss cottage, which was the area where the queens children spent most of their time. The main house and the swiss cottage are contected by a mini bus, or you can use the horse and carriage. You can now visit the Queen Victoria's private beach. There is a cafe, deck-chairs and views out onto the Solent. The house was used in the 2017 hit film Victoria & Abdul. The village was named Godshill, because of the legend of the local church. The church was meant to be on flat ground, but every night the stones where moved to the top of the hill, hence Godshill. The village has a shopping village called the Old Smithy, where there are a selection of gifts shops and a cafe.     West Wight West Wight is the least populated area of the island, which gives the area a spectacular landscape, with views that spread the width of the island. The largest town in the area is Freshwater, with its beach and shops. The islands most famous landmark, The Needles, is in this area. Famous poets and writers have made this area home in the past. Lord Alfred Tennyson was a regular visitior to the area, and the famous white cliffs have been named after him, Tennyson Down. Yarmouth is home to the wightlink ferry terminal to lymington. The ferry terminal is overlooked by the tudor castle of Yarmouth. Attractions : The area has so many attractions it is not possible to visit all of them in one day!
