Geologia insulei este principalul motiv pentru descoperirile de fosile. Coasta de la Sandown la West Wight este alcatuita din argila moale, care pastreaza fosilele, dar provoaca si eroziunea grava care expune fosilele. Cel mai des întâlnit dinozaur pe insulă este Iguanodon. Puteți vedea chiar și urmele pașilor de la Compton la valul scăzut.
